St. John the Baptist Parish Library wrapped up another successful Summer Reading Program, with participants logging nearly 2,400 hours of reading. This year’s theme, “Plant a Seed, Read,” encouraged patrons of all ages to grow healthy reading habits and explore all the library has to offer through six weeks of free, family-focused activities.
Makerspace workshops, a K-pop drawing class, the Dinosaur Experience, Toy Storytime, animal encounters with The Reptile Krewe, DIY seed balls, a beaded botanical craft, and visits with the St. John Parish Fire Department were among the programs that drew large crowds to the Library between June 1 – July 11.
This summer’s programming was also elevated by community partnerships with St. John Theatre, River Parish Community Theatre, LSU AgCenter, the St. John Sugar Queen Pageant, and the Center for Literacy and Learning.
Patrons who completed the reading challenge were eligible for grand prize drawings. This year’s lucky winners were:
- Ages 0-3: Charlotte Lemoine
- Ages 4-8: Giada Falgoust
- Ages 9-11: Ava Lowe
- Ages 12-17: Kori Rich
- Adults: Hayley Falgout
Grand prizes varied by age group and included items such as a farmers’ market playset, a Yoto Mini audio player, a 3D pen kit, a Nintendo Switch Lite, and an Instant Pot.
St. John the Baptist Parish Library thanks Chick-fil-A LaPlace, Raising Cane’s, and Sonic for contributing to completion rewards for all who finished the reading challenge.
