Mardi Gras in the MakerSpace

Enjoy a month full of Mardi Gras themed activities in the Leory D. Williams Memorial Library MakerSpace, located at 1482 Highway 44 in Reserve. Workshops are typically held in the mornings from 9 to 11 a.m. and in the evenings from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Attend a training and earn a badge of completion to use the equipment for personal projects!

Week One – Button Maker (February 3-6)

During the first week of February, visit the Reserve Library’s MakerSpace to learn how to use the American Button Machine button maker. We will discuss the dos and don’ts of the equipment and steps to successfully create buttons with metal or plastic backings. Utilize Mardi Gras themed templates or create your own button design to celebrate the Carnival Season! 

Week Two – Sawgrass Sublimation Printer and HTVRont Heat Press / Tumbler Press (February 10-13)

During the second week of February, visit the MakerSpace at the Reserve Library to learn about the Sawgrass Sublimation Printer and Heat Press. We will go over the dos and don’ts of the equipment and how to successfully operate them. As part of the training, we will offer Mardi Gras graphics for patrons to create personalized gear. Please bring your own T-shirt (preferably 100% polyester), tumbler, or tote bag to customize.

Week Three – Cricut Maker 3 (February 17-20)

During the third week of February, visit the MakerSpace at the Reserve Branch to learn how to use the Cricut Maker 3. We will discuss the dos and don’ts of the equipment, what materials designs can be applied to, the different types of vinyl, and how to layer designs. As part of the training, we will be applying Mardi Gras image to vinyl, which patrons can take home to customize their own fabrics and mugs.

Week Four – Epilog Laser Engraver (February 24-27)

During the fourth week of February, stop by the MakerSpace at the Reserve Branch and learn to use the Epilog Laser Engraver. We will discuss the dos and dont’s of the equipment and how to successfully operate it. We will learn how to engrave designs on different materials such as wood, glass, fabric, plastic and more. As part of the training, we will work in CorelDraw to create Mardi Gras designs to be applied on wood, acrylic, and metals. Materials will be provided.
