Each week in September, there will be training on different equipment in the new MakerSpace at the Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library, located at 1482 Highway 44 in Reserve. Teens and adults who stop by during the week and complete the training will receive a badge allowing them to use the equipment for personal projects.

The weekly schedule is as follows:

September 3-6: Janome Sewing Machines

The MakerSpace offers both computerized and manual machines with built in stitches, buttonholes and fonts for embroidery.  We will learn how to maneuver thread through the machines, how to bobbin, and how to work with different stitching patterns.

Daily trainings will be held in a 9 to 11 a.m. morning session and a 3 to 5 p.m. evening session.

September 9-13: HP DesignJet Z6 Large-Format Printer

The HP DesignJet can print signs up to 44 inches by several feet on paper, canvas, photo paper, and vinyl. It’s the perfect tool for creating banners, posters, and large signs. We will demonstrate the types of paper that can be used, the different sizes of paper that can be used, and what format the printer can read.

Daily trainings will be held in a 9 to 11 a.m. morning session and a 3 to 5 p.m. evening session.

September 16-20: Learn to Program Ozobots

Ozobots are small, programmable robots that teach kids coding and other STEAM-based skills. Using sensors and cameras, these robots can track and respond to colors. Experiment with the bots by guiding them along paths using markers or stickers. Incorporate coding to make Ozobots move in different directions, slow down, speed up, and stop. We will discuss color codes and which markers can and cannot be used to perform an action.

The workshop will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.

September 23-27: Build robots with Cubelets

Cubelets’ unique design makes robot-building simple. Their size and magnetic connections are perfect for users of all skill levels. No need to code – the behavior emerges from your construction. We will learn how each cube operates and the function for each one.

The workshop will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.
