The Beanstack app isn’t just for Summer Reading! St. John the Baptist Parish Library invites you to continue your reading journey throughout the 2026-27 school year with new reading challenges recently added to the library’s Beanstack site.

Please note, you will only be able to view challenges associated with the age you have entered for readers on your account.

Ages 0-5: 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

One thousand books? That seems like way too many, right? Not at all. You got this. It doesn’t matter if your child is three, or just three months – there’s no better time to start than now!  The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Challenge helps young children develop pre-reading skills and promotes parent and caregiver bonding. Read a book (any book) to your infant, toddler, or preschooler. The goal is to have read 1,000 books (yes, you can repeat books) before your precious one starts kindergarten. Story time at the Library counts toward your total, too!

Ages 0-11: Fall Into Reading Kid’s Challenge

Read at least seven books of your choice before November 30th and log the titles on the Beanstack app. Then, visit the library to claim a bookmark for a free kid’s meal from Raising Cane’s and a coupon for a free corndog from Sonic, while supplies last! Children ages 0-5 can also count reading towards the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Challenge.

Teens & Adults: Read. Visit. Learn.

“Read.Visit.Learn” is a simple monthly challenge designed to help you stay curious, connected, and inspired by your library. It’s simple! Each month, complete three activities:

  • Read: Any physical book, e-book, or audiobook counts!
  • Visit the Library: Stop by to check out a book, attend a program, or use technology.
  • Learn Something New: Access the featured online resource of the month at www.stjohnlib.com and tell us your thoughts. This month’s featured resource is Homework Louisiana, which offers free, virtual tutoring for the kindergarten through college level daily from 10 a.m. to midnight. There is also an adult education center and drop-off resume review.

That’s it! Complete the monthly challenge to earn an entry into a seasonal drawing for library swag and a custom item created in our MakerSpace. Complete at least three monthly challenges between June and November 2026 to be invited to an exclusive library event. Each month, you can also find optional “bonus” activities to add to your growing collection of Beanstack badges!
