The state-of-the-art MakerSpace at the Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library in Reserve is packed with low- and high-tech equipment available for use in library programs and creative uses by individuals and groups. Weekly workshops are typically held Monday through Thursday from 9-11 a.m. and from 3-5 p.m., focusing on a specific piece of equipment. Community members who attend the workshops earn a badge of completion so they may continue to utilize the MakerSpace for their own creative endeavors.
While there is no charge for activities that are part of library programs, including the weekly workshops, there will be a minimal charge for materials and supplies for individuals and groups utilizing the technology in the MakerSpace.
August 3-10 & August 12-13: HP DesignJet Z6 Large-Format Printer
During the first two weeks of August, come to the Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library MakerSpace to learn about the HP DesignJet Z6 printer. This professional, large-format machine can produce prints up to 44 inches wide, making it ideal for posters and banners. We will discuss the dos and don’ts of the equipment and how to properly operate it, including loading and unloading paper and identifying what files are compatible with the printer. Participants will be able to take home their own print as part of this library program. Workshops will not be held on Tuesday, August 11.
August 17-20: Epilog Laser Engraver
During the third week of August, come to the Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library MakerSpace to learn about the Epilog Laser Engraver. This machine uses a laser beam that cuts, etches, and engraves designs with pinpoint precision across a wide variety of materials, including wood, acrylic, glass, and metal. We will discuss the dos and don’ts of the equipment and how to properly operate it.
August 24-27: Janome Sewing Machines
During the fourth week of August, come to the Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library MakerSpace to learn about the Janome sewing machines. We will discuss the dos and don’ts of the equipment and how to properly operate both the mechanical and computerized machines, learning how to bobbin, thread, and load the sewing machines.
