The Library Board of Control began saving for a Reserve relocation project years ago, now is finally the right time to begin the process.

The location of the current library plays a major role in this decision. The library now does not have enough parking spaces to adequately serve the community, as patrons sometimes must park in nearby residential areas or on Lions Club property. Functionality and accessibility also play a role. Features and resources will be more viable, useful, and practical. There is also a lack of outdoor area for programming. The new library will provide adequate space for programming use.

In June of 2020, properties that were available for purchase were presented to the Library Board and the decision was made to begin a feasibility study on the property along River Road in Reserve. The feasibility study indicated that the property was a prime location for this size and type of public facility, and the Library Board decided to purchase the land in December of 2020.

In December 2020, St. John the Baptist Parish Library System purchased land along River Road, adjacent to the St. John Theatre. Construction Documents were finalized from the Design phase in July 2021.  Lemoine Construction, The CMAR (Construction Manager at Risk) was selected in June 2021.  Ground Breaking took place on 9/21/2021.  Construction began on 10/10/22.  The estimated substantial completion date is 11/9/2023.

The 21st Century library is not merely a repository for books, but a community center that reflects the culture, history and needs of the region. Libraries are champions of the youth, a hub for local business partnerships and a home for all in the community. The name has not changed, just the mission. Libraries remain important cornerstones of a healthy community.  Libraries give people the opportunity to learn, interact, experience, share, create, and build, while at the same time providing a sense of place for gathering and life-long learning. Our new library will embody all of this and more.
