MakerSpace

The state-of-the-art MakerSpace at the Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library in Reserve is packed with low- and high-tech equipment available for use in library programs and creative uses by individuals and groups.


While there is no charge for activities that are part of library programs, there will be a minimal charge for materials and supplies for individuals and groups utilizing the technology in the MakerSpace.

Equipment


The following equipment is available:

  • Epilog laser cutter/engraver – This incredible machine uses a high-power laser to cut and engrave on many types of materials – metal, leather, acrylic, wood, and more!
  • Cricut Maker – The Cricut cuts vinyl and many other materials, such as fabric, wood, paper. 
  • HP DesignJet large-format printer – This printer prints on paper, canvas, photo paper, and vinyl to create banners, posters, and signs up to 44 inches wide.
  • Sewing Machines – These computerized and manual machines have built in features for stitches, buttonholes, and fonts for embroidery.
  • 3D Printers – Lasers create three-dimensional designs out of heated plastic strands.
  • Sublimation Printers – These printers create designs that can be imprinted into the fabric of shirts, tote bags, and more.
  • Heat Press – Use this machine to place vinyl and sublimation designs on fabric and create fashionable shirts, hats, banners, mugs, and tumblers. 
  • STEM Educational Kits – Ozobots, Edisonbots, Cubelets, 3Doodler pens, MakeyMakey kits, Squishy Circuits, LittleBits and Snap Circuits are exciting tech sets that can be used in library programs or classroom visits by staff to teach coding, robotics, electricity, and circuitry basics.

Classes


Classes on various equipment will be held in the MakerSpace. Patrons who complete the classes will earn badges to use the equipment for personal projects.

St. John the Baptist Parish Library welcomes volunteers with experience in building, circuitry and electronics, sewing, crafting, woodworking, and robotics.
