Robotics workshops planned for January in Reserve Branch MakerSpace
Enjoy a month full of hands-on robotics workshops at the Reserve MakerSpace! Patrons young and old can experiment with the Ozobots, Makey-Makey Circuit kits, Cubelets, and Edison Robots.
Workshops are held from 9 to 11 AM and from 3 to 5 PM Mondays through Thursdays (excluding January 20 due to the Martin Luther King Day closure). Participants do not need to attend multiple sessions. A badge of completion will be awarded at the completion of the training.
Week One – Ozobots (January 6-9)
During the first week of January, visit the MakerSpace at the Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library in Reserve to learn how to successfully operate the Ozobots! Ozobots are small robots that can be programmed to detect colors and follow paths or mazes drawn onto paper. We will be using markers to design a track for the Ozobots to follow. Participants will learn what code works well and how the Ozobot reads the code.
Week Two – Makey-Makey Circuit Boards (January 14-17)
During the second week of January, visit the MakerSpace inside the Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library in Reserve to learn how to use the Makey-Makey Circuit Boards. This electronic device allows you to connect ordinary objects like fruits, toys, or even your body to a computer via circuits, creating a makeshift keyboard/touchpad to control actions on the screen. We will learn how to use Play-Doh to operate connections and create a song to play for others.
Week Three – Cubelets (January 21-23)
During the third week of January, visit the MakerSpace at the Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library in Reserve to learn how to successfully operate the Cubelets! Cubelets are magnetic, modular robots that don’t require any programming or wires. The robots can be built into different shapes and can move around a table as they respond to external factors like light, sound, and even temperature. Participants will learn about the functions of each colored block (sense blocks, action blocks, and think blocks) and create their own robotic models.
Week Four – Edison Robots (January 27-30)
During the fourth week of January, visit the MakerSpace at the Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library in Reserve to learn how to successfully operate the Edison Robots! These robots are innovative STEM learning tools that can respond to external factors like light and sound, follow paths, avoid obstacles, and communicate with other Edison Robots. We will learn how to use the Edison Robots in conjunction with LEGOs, how to program commands, and how to scan barcodes. The training will include BotWars battles, an opportunity to play, learn and interact with others.
