Roll out to St. John the Baptist Parish Library this September to celebrate Library Card Sign-up Month. We encourage you to discover the incredible resources available at your local library with a library card, the smartest card you can keep in your wallet.

The National Library Card Sign-Up Month Campaign started in 1987 to promote library cards as a vital tool to children’s education. The first Library Card Sign-Up Month was celebrated with a birthday party aesthetic and the tagline, “The best gift you can give to your child.” The American Library Association named Optimus Prime from the TRANSFORMERS series as this year’s special ambassador, highlighting that libraries are “more than meets the eye.”

Today’s libraries are vibrant community centers offering much more than just books. St. John the Baptist Parish Library has books in various formats, but we also offer seed libraries, online tutoring, children’s activities, adult craft nights, computer classes, service hour opportunities, and so much more.

Getting a library card is easy and is an essential step toward academic success and lifelong learning for children and adults.

Curious about learning a new language? St. John the Baptist Parish Library has the resources you need. We offer weekly Spanish for Beginners and English as a Second Language classes, along with access to Mango Language learning software, free with your library card.

Need help planning your next career move? Use your library card to find resume assistance, cover letter review, interview preparation, and study materials for specialized college entrance exams through Homework Louisiana’s Adult Education Center and Learning Express. Video tutorials on LinkedIn Learning and Udemy help you continuously learn and stand out from others in your field. You can even obtain an official high school diploma through the Excel High School offered through the library.

Don’t miss out! Stop by any of our library branches with an ID, and a friendly staff member will be happy to assist you with obtaining a library card. They are free to all individuals who live, work, or attend school in St. John the Baptist Parish. Non-residents can obtain a library card for a $5 annual fee.

Check out our online calendar and pick up a copy of the September newsletter to find more ways to celebrate all month long.
