LaPlace Library

In the aftermath of Hurricane Ida, St. John the Baptist Parish Library staff worked diligently to reopen a service location in LaPlace. An entrance was created to the left of the Norris J. Millet Sr. Library Branch, opening the doors to a cheerful, renovated space with all the services the community has come to know and love in a more compact area. The smaller facility offers print/copy/fax services, computer access, designated children’s and teen/adult spaces, two meeting rooms, and a study room. Now the time has come to begin the process of redesigning and rebuilding the LaPlace Branch.

An open house style community meeting on the LaPlace rebuild will be held from 4 to 6 PM Tuesday, September 24th inside the Multipurpose Room of the Reserve Branch at 1482 Highway 44 in Reserve.

Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library

Hundreds of community members, elected officials, and local dignitaries gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the new Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library in July 2024. The library’s namesake is a fitting tribute to the late Leroy D. Williams, whose lifetime of service on the library board and his contributions to the development and success of the library system will forever be remembered. The Reserve Branch offers traditional services such as book collections, story times, computers, DVDs, audiobooks, online databases, faxing, newspapers, magazines, and flexible meeting rooms of various sizes, in addition to a collection of specialty spaces to help community members learn and grow.

A state-of-the-art MakerSpace provides access to low-tech and high-tech equipment through library programming and creative uses by individuals and groups. A flexible conference room that seats 20 doubles as a gaming room with PS5, X-Box, and Nintendo Switch systems. Patrons can make their voices heard with technology in the Podcast Room, or head over to the One Button Studio to record presentations or attend virtual meetings and telehealth appointments. A library-run café provides a space to relax and connect with others. Set to reach completion in August, a historic 1885 House on the property will provide space for meetings, local history collections, and a teaching kitchen that can be utilized for cooking demonstrations among small groups. Another feature coming soon is the outdoor sensory garden, which will include stations for individuals with and without disabilities to enjoy.
