January MakerSpace Workshops

Enjoy a month full of S.T.E.A.M. activities in the Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library MakerSpace, located at 1482 Highway 44 in Reserve. Workshops are typically held in the mornings from 9 to 11 a.m. and in the evenings from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Attend a training and earn a badge of completion to use the equipment for personal projects!

St. John the Baptist Parish Library welcomes volunteers with experience in building, circuitry and electronics, sewing, crafting, woodworking, and robotics. For more information, contact MakerSpace Coordinator Kevin Travis at ktravis@stjohnlib.com or at 985-536-4107 ext. 3106.

Epilog Edge Laser Engraver (January 5-8)

During the first week of January, come to the Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library MakerSpace to learn how to use the Epilog Laser Engraver, an innovative machine that carve designs into materials such as plastics, wood, glass, and acrylic. We will learn how to operate programs such as CorelDraw, Cuttle, and ImageR to create designs to send to the laser engraver. 

HP DesignJet Large-Format Printer (January 12-15)

During the second week of January, come to the Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library MakerSpace to learn how to use the HP DesignJet large format printer, which can create banners and posters up to 44 inches wide. We will discuss and go over the dos and don’ts of the equipment and how to successfully operate it. This will include learning about the different types of paper that can be loaded, the files that can be read by the printer, and how to achieve the best image quality for your prints. Patrons will have the opportunity to find images and have them printed out to take home.

MakerBot 3D Printers (January 20-22 – Library is closed Monday for Martin Luther King Day)

During the third week of January, stop by the Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library MakerSpace to learn about the MakerBot 3D Printers. We will discuss the dos and don’ts of the equipment and how to successfully operate the printer with cutting edge software UltiMaker Cura to transform digital models into 3D figurines. 

Sawgrass Sublimation Printer (January 26-29)

During the fourth week of January, stop by the Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library MakerSpace to learn about the Sawgrass Sublimation Printer, a specialized type of printer that uses heat transfer to print images onto various materials, such as shirts and tumblers. We will discuss the dos and don’ts of the equipment and how to successfully operate them. This will include learning how to load and unload the sublimation paper, sizing your desired image, and learning how to get the best color quality out of your image.
